Bladeloft Ceiling Fan Filter Pads
Activated-carbon pads that stick to the top of each ceiling fan blade. No tools, no wiring, nothing to plug in. Peels off clean when you move out.
Your fan already catches the dust. It just has nowhere to keep it.
A ceiling fan moves more air through a room than anything else you own — several thousand cubic feet a minute, for hours a day. Every bit of that air passes its own blades.
Right at the surface of a moving blade the air isn't moving at all. It's a still layer a fraction of a millimetre thick, and dust that hits it stops. The blade picks up a static charge as it turns, which holds the dust there. That grey strip on top of your blade isn't dirt that settled on a surface nobody cleans — it's a sample of the air in that room, and your fan collected it.
The problem is what happens next. A fan blade is a few inches of hard, flat plastic with nowhere to put anything, so it fills up within days. Then every time the fan comes back on, it hands the load back to the room.
Bladeloft gives the blade somewhere to keep it.
Fitting it takes under a minute
- Wipe the top of the blade. The top only, and it needs to be dry. This is the whole trick — it's why pads fall off when people skip it.
- Peel and press. One pad per blade, adhesive side down, pressed firmly along its length.
- Turn the fan on. Replace when the pad has visibly gone grey.
No tools, no drilling, nothing to explain to a landlord. It comes off without residue.
What's in the pad
Activated carbon in a bonded fibre matrix, cut to 10" × 3.5" — sized for standard 42" to 52" fan blades, which covers almost every fan sold in the US. Around nine grams each, roughly two sheets of paper, so a full set doesn't unbalance the fan.
Unscented. Nothing is added to your air, nothing is released, there's no ozone and nothing to plug in.
What we're not going to tell you: a capture percentage. Brands in this category quote figures from lab tests they paid for, under conditions that aren't your living room. We haven't run that test, so we're not going to quote a number. Peel a pad off after a month and judge it yourself — that's a better test anyway.
Bladeloft is not a purifier
It does a different job, in a different place, for a different price. A 52-inch ceiling fan on high moves somewhere in the region of 4,000–6,000 cubic feet of air a minute. A typical room air purifier moves 100–350. That isn't a knock on purifiers — they filter what passes through them and they do it well. It's just that they only get to work on the air that finds its way to one corner of one room.
If you want a certified capture percentage, buy a HEPA purifier. That's a real thing it does that this doesn't, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. What we do is put filter media on the one surface in your room that was already collecting dust and then throwing it back.
Questions
Will it unbalance my fan?
Each pad is about nine grams. Fit one per blade so the weight is even, and the fan stays balanced.
Will it fall off?
Not if the blade is clean and dry when you fit it. That's why step one matters more than it sounds.
Will it damage my fan?
It peels away without residue. Go slowly and the blade underneath is untouched.
I already have an air purifier.
Then you've probably noticed the fan is still grey. A purifier works from one corner of one room. The fan moves the whole room — and has no filter in it at all.
How often do I replace them?
When the pad has visibly darkened — in most homes every one to two months. You won't have to guess.
Does it smell?
No. Unscented, no ozone, nothing released into the room.
Will it fit my fan?
